The Donaldson and Hosmer Building, built in 1887, has steadily followed the evolution of downtown Marion, KS. With its use first as a bank, then professional offices and cafes among other uses, the building had endured a significant number of remodels and changes over time. In 2019, a new owner desired to bring life back to the then vacant building by providing a mixed-use development to the downtown area. On the first floor, the new development houses a retail space overlooking Main Street with an accessible residential unit at the rear of the building. The second floor has two residential dwelling units with spacious loft-style living areas. Respect was paid to the historic woodwork and features that were still present throughout the building. These features were incorporated into the new design for the building and showcase the craftsmanship of the building’s original constructors. The project as a whole contributes a unique amenity to downtown Marion.
